3 Speed Ceiling Fan Only Has 2 Speeds

The 4 wire switch has markings on one side that shows l 1 2 3.

3 speed ceiling fan only has 2 speeds.

Basically pulling the chain cycles between medium medium low and off. The kitchen ceiling fan used to have 3 speeds but now only has high speed. I recently turned it off and when i turned it back on only the high speed is working. The ceiling fan would turn on by using the wall switch but it would only work on one speed low speed.

1 2 3 are the fan speed control wires. I tried replacing the switch but that had no effect. Two of the fans are working without a single flaw but i discovered one of the fans has issues with speed. It s like the clutch is broken and can t get out of third gear.

I still only have the high speed. Has anyone had this problem before. When on pulling the chain once or twice doesn t alter the speed. I assumed the switch was bad and replaced it.

For those who are having a problem with their hunter 3 speed fan not working on all speeds listen up. Turning the knob to high or medium did nothing. My fan would work on low speed and high speed but when i selected medium speed i got low speed. Because it occurred within a few months of the remodel and because our house s wiring has always been a little bit flakey anyway i figured that there must be some sort of electrical problem.

I think i even bought the last three they have left but i digress. The l stands for load which is the black wire. 3 speed ceiling fan only has 1 speed 3 answers i have a 3 speed hunter ceiling that i rarely turn off and all 3 speeds had been working.
